A cloud roadmap for your business

A cloud roadmap for your business Most companies that hope to be in business for the next 10 years have at least considered moving to the cloud. In fact, more than half of them will make their files and emails cloud-based by the end of this year[1]. They’ve seen how the cloud is helping small, agile companies disrupt markets and grow at breakneck speed. They’ve also heard the stories about enhanced collaboration, IT savings, and the many security benefits the cloud offers. Like many companies, you might be harboring a nagging feeling that you should just get going, but knowing where to start can be the problem. Thankfully, there’s a simple three-step path that many companies use when they move […]

Why cloud security is better security

When the ransomware attack WannaCry hit, it shook the world and brought a number of established institutions to their knees. If you watched the news unfold thinking, ‘That’ll never happen to my business’, you probably aren’t alone. But you’re also probably wrong. The truth is, the odds aren’t in your favor. Malware attacks like ransomware target businesses of all sizes, at random, and they’re on the rise. What’s more, growing businesses like yours are both more likely to fall victim to these attacks and less likely to recover quickly. It may seem as if moving your IT to the cloud is the worst thing that you can do under these circumstances, but it’s actually one of the smartest moves that […]

Why growing businesses need a cloud roadmap

Why growing businesses need a cloud roadmap  Few things are harder than growing a business. On the one hand, you’re trying to scale your processes, bring in new talent and serve your customers in more sustainable ways. On the other, you’re trying to hang on to the agility and culture that made your small business so special in the first place. It’s a tough balance to find. The thing is, there’s never been a better time to be a growing business. The rise of cloud-based tech (technology managed or accessed over the internet) has changed the game. The cloud has made it incredibly easy to tap into the kinds of powerful, ultra-secure technology that only the biggest businesses used to […]

Speeding Medway Council towards £1 million savings

Medway’s ‘Better for Less’ programme looks for ways to drive efficiency – to do things better, but cheaper. With aging hardware and inefficient utilisation of desk space, Medway faced several challenges across both ICT and real estate. Moira Bragg, Head of ICT, and her team, developed a business case for investment in a virtualisation programme. Initially, a Citrix solution, although the best technical fit for the Council’s needs, appeared too costly. But using Thintech’s design, a Citrix XenDesktop® solution met criteria for speed, security, remote access and useability – within budget. Security for Medway’s many departments dealing with sensitive data, eg Children’s Services, was paramount. Now, with a data-centre replacing scattered data holdings across PCs, sensitive and business-critical information is […]

Thintech, in partnership with Capita, is working with the Council of the London Borough of Merton to bring Citrix technology to 2,000 employees – giving them the benefits associated with flexible location working and Bring-Your-Own-Device to access work applications, documents and rich media on the move. With a dispersed workforce, and under pressure to reduce costs, the Council turned to Citrix XenApp® and XenDesktop® technology, delivered by Thintech, to provide desktop virtualisation, including hosted shared desktops, and Citrix NetScaler® to develop a cloud-based internal network where employees can access secure server-based resources and personal desktops. The challenges Merton faced – high overheads and a dispersed workforce – are common to many organisations. Virtual desktops accommodate flexibility whilst also allowing existing […]

Thomas Eggar LLP enjoys a secure mobile workspace

In common with many multi-discipline and multi-site firms, Thomas Eggar, a top-100 UK law firm, had evolved a complex estate of software applications, including some highly specialised case management systems, to support the needs of different users – resulting in incompatibility and challenges with integration. The variety of PC desktops in the firm’s offices (based in locations across the south of England) presented a challenge to the IT team, and a forthcoming merger added additional pressure – with 74 new staff needing fully integrated desktop access, and the requirement to merge the two firms’ practice management, finance and administrative systems whilst retaining full security of confidential files. Head of IT, Paul Serkis, and his team selected Thintech’s solution using Citrix […]
