£2.7 million cost savings for East Kent Services
East Kent Services, the shared services ICT provider to Canterbury, Dover and Thanet District Councils, deployed Citrix mobile workspace technology using Thintech Virtual desktop Methodology (TPMS) to support its workplace transformation programme – seeking more collaboration, lower costs and greater organisational resilience.
At tender, Thintech’s demonstrated the best understanding of the client’s needs, and presented a more efficient design than those of their competitors. Their solution, built on Citrix XenApp® and Citrix NetScaler® allows users to access all systems from a single desktop log-in, allowing greater mobility and streamlining systems. Key features include:
- Remote and mobile access – enabling mobility as well as being an essential part of a disaster recovery plan
- Rationalising space – on each main site spare capacity has been created, which is now leased to other public sector bodies.
Significant cost savings
As of August 2014, the projected savings were £2.7 million, 42% more than originally estimated.
“Working with Thintech is like having an extension of your own department – your service engineer can call on them and it feels like they’re part of the team. When you’re working as a shared service there can be a sense in the organisation that ‘it’s an IT issue’ – so the fact that Thintech are happy to take responsibility and be open and collaborative is refreshing.”
Timo Bayford, ICT Technical Systems Manager, East Kent Services.
